When the APPG for the West Midlands was constituted in December 2025, CalComms led the process of establishing the group’s structure and building parliamentary support.
Working within strict parliamentary rules governing APPG membership and the limited time available to MPs and Peers, we secured the participation of over 20 parliamentarians and successfully formalised the group.
CalComms developed a strategic positioning and communications approach to ensure the APPG’s agenda reflected the region’s most important economic priorities. This included identifying key sectors driving growth in the West Midlands – such as life sciences, renewable energy, creative industries and advanced manufacturing – and translating these into a focused parliamentary programme.
To strengthen the APPG’s work, CalComms also established an Expert Advisory Board, bringing together businesses, organisations and charities from across the region to inform the group’s outputs. Through detailed research and stakeholder engagement, we ensured representation from across the West Midlands and built a network capable of supporting the region’s ambitions.
The result has been a structured programme of workstreams aligned with regional investment and growth strategies, helping to raise the profile of the West Midlands within Westminster and strengthen its position as a leading destination for innovation and investment.
